Collective Announces Second Annual Playwriting Competition

BROOKFIELD — The Playwrights Collective of the Brookfield Theatre for the Arts has opened its second annual playwriting competition.

The contest is open to residents of the New England states, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The deadline for submissions is September 15, 2003.

Only original, full-length (80-100 pages) plays are eligible; no children’s plays, musicals, adaptations or translations. The cast must be limited to eight characters or fewer.

Any plays submitted must have won an award and received a reading or staged reading in the past five years but have not been published or professionally produced.

The playwright should submit the following: a manuscript, typed in standard format and bound in a three-hole cover, a synopsis, a cast list, evidence of the staged reading or reading of the play or the festival of new plays for which it was chosen, a résumé, a manuscript-size SASE for return of the script, SASP if you wish to be notified of the receipt of the manuscript, and a $10 reading fee, check or money order, payable to The Playwrights Collective.

The finalists will receive a reading by The Playwrights Collective at The Brookfield Theatre for the Arts. The first place winner will receive a cash award of $400 and a production at the Brookfield Theatre for the Arts.

The selection committee reserves the right to withhold an award if in their opinion no entry merits the award. Decisions of the committee are final.

Contest entries should be sent to The Playwrights Collective Second Annual Contest c/o Wendell MacNeal, 12A Ta’agan Point Road, Danbury CT 06811.
