Newtown's 25th Annual Health and Public Safety Fair will be Saturday, September 22, and organizers are reaching out to invite the community and anyone interested in optimizing their health.

The fair’s planners — Mae Schmidle, Dr Della Schmid, Health District Director Donna Culbert, Newtown VNA President Anna Weidemann, and fisio Physical Therapy founder Karin LaBanca — are very excited to celebrate this “silver” milestone while offering so many free benefits, giveaways, and prizes to the community and out Health Fair visitors.

This year’s Health Fair will be located at the Reed Intermediate School on Saturday, September 22 between 9 am and 1 pm.

While parents or caregivers check out exhibitors or take advantage of various health screenings, children can enjoy the Health Fair’s first-ever “Fun Course” in the Reed School gymnasium, Ms Culbert said.

“The Fun Course has been put together by Janet Merrifield, a pediatric Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA); Donna Moxham of Garage Girls Fitness; and Mia Ramey of Gift of Gab, as well as Anna LaBanca and Newtown High School students from REACH,” Ms Culbert said.

The course will offer a variety of stations of age-appropriate physical activities for children from toddler to middle school age.

Of course, the planners are as excited as ever about all the free health screenings, free information and advice, and all the free giveaways.

Residents can experience interactive demonstrations and wellness treatments. There are numerous free drawings, gift certificates to many of Newtown’s restaurants and eateries to honor Family Day, and promotions from many of our local businesses.

To date, Health Fair free health screening offerings include skin cancer screening; vision screening; posture and balance; cholesterol, lipid profile, blood sugar, blood pressure, and BMI screening; body composition analysis; and diabetes risk screening.

Bethel VNA, with support from Newtown VNA, will be providing flu shots and Know Your Numbers screening at the Health Fair.

Exhibitors, including many Newtown municipal and nonprofit support agencies, confirmed as of September 12 include Aqua Environmental Lab; BLAST Lyme Disease prevention station; Center for Support and Wellness; Children’s Adventure Center; Commission on Aging; CT Institute for Communities — School Based Health Center; and CT Tick Control.
