Connecticut Choral Society Spring Season Rehearsals Underway; Openings Available

SOUTH BRITAIN — The Connecticut Choral Society (CCS) under the direction of Eric Dale Knapp will have begun rehearsals for its spring concert.

The group rehearses each Monday beginning at 7:30 pm, at the South Britain Congregational Church Parish Hall, Route 172 at East Flat Hill Road in South Britain. CCS will present a benefit concert, “Look at the World,” on Sunday, April 10, at First Congregational Church in Danbury. The concert will feature organist Mark Pacoe, organist and pianist Linda Sweetman-Waters, soprano saxophonist Michael Breaux, percussionist Tom Kozumplik, The Connecticut Choral Society and Chamber Singers, and Connecticut Choral Society Festival Singers.

The Choral Society’s Spring concerts will then culminate the group’s 30th anniversary events. Entitled “Celebration,” these concerts will be performed Saturday, May 21, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown, and Sunday, May 22, at The Congregational Church of Naugatuck. Included in the program are Palestrina’s Sicut Cervus; Esther Scliar’s Lua, Lua, Lua; John Rutter’s “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” Fanny Hensel’s “At Evening the Forest Murmurs,” Moses Hogan’s “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands,” Copland’s In the Beginning, William Mathais’s “Let All the World in Every Corner Sing,” LouIs Vierne’s Messe Solennelle, Mendelssohn’s He, Watching Over Israel, Boniface’s Mganga — Natufurahi Siku Ya Leo, and  Mack Wilberg’s “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.”

Connecticut Choral Society is composed of more than 60 auditioned singers from over 20 area towns. Founded in 1980, the choral society is committed to providing a music resource for Connecticut, encouraging the singing and performance of choral music of high artistic quality, and stimulating greater appreciation and enjoyment of choral music.

CCS performs locally several times each year and has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, toured internationally and performed on network television.
