‘Country In CT:’ Ohms And Derwitsch At PS Gallery

LITCHFIELD — PS Gallery is presenting an exhibit featuring two artists that have been with the gallery for over 15 years: Faith Ohms and Richard Derwitsch. “Country In Connecticut” is on view until September 30. The gallery is open daily from 11 am to 4 pm.

Litchfield resident Faith Ohms specializes in the painting of still life and animals in acrylics. In recent years, she has developed a technique of including a faux frame into her composition, thereby creating a trompe l’oeil effect (to fool the eye). The artist has become widely known for her use of this technique, especially in her cow portraits.

Ms Ohms’s work has been exhibited widely throughout Connecticut, and her works reside in numerous private and public collections.

Winchester resident Richard Derwitsch is well known for his paintings of rural Litchfield County and for detailed still life works. His subtle use of light, color and value captures the essence and mood of each landscape.

Painting on site, or “plein air,” give his oils a realism that can rarely be captured in the studio. Mr Derwitsch has exhibited with PS Gallery for the past 15 years, with many shows being near sell-outs. He has won numerous awards for his oils and is collected widely throughout America.

On a sad note, PS Gallery regretfully announces the death of a friend and artist, Peter Colvin. Mr Colvin was to have artwork included in “Country In Connecticut,” but due to the wishes of his family, his original work is not being exhibited at this time.

The gallery, at 41 West Street, can be contacted by calling 860-567-1059.
