"If there is a problem, call Public Works [203-270-4300]. We will be taking work order requests for curbside storm debris removal until Friday, June 22."

Mr Rosenthal said since the town is seeking federal reimbursement for the pickups to minimize financial impact on taxpayers, he noted that only debris determined to be from the May 15 event will be collected.

Any other debris is not FEMA reimbursable.

"It is our intention to complete this task within a three week period," Mr Rosenthal said in a release issued Friday, June 1. "The five main affected areas already have contractors and crews scheduled. If you live on one of those streets you do not need to notify Public Works."

Mr Rosenthal said he is aware there are other areas of town where damage is more localized.

The size and amount of big wood may require any continuing efforts beyond June 22, he said, but the Town wants all requests on file by that date.

"We will not take 'new' requests for curbside storm debris removal after this date," Mr Rosenthal added.

Property owners on the listed streets are to place all debris to be removed within ten feet of the curb. The debris is not to extend over the curb into the roadway.

Roadway intersections and driveway site lines are not to be impaired by piles of debris.

After all debris is removed, Mr Rosenthal said affected roads will be swept and all stormwater basins checked and cleaned as necessary.

As a matter of safety both for the residents and the crews who will be doing this work, all residents should keep at least 75 feet or more away from all crews and equipment. Injuries may be caused by flying debris or distraction.

"We want to keep everyone safe during this operation and complete it as expeditiously as possible," the first selectman said.
