Danbury Hospital Plans 13th Annual Children’s Day

DANBURY — Danbury Hospital invites children and families to attend the 13th Annual Children’s Day on Saturday, March 20. The event will take place from 10 am to 2 pm at the Danbury Hospital campus, 24 Hospital Avenue.

There is free parking in the Red (Locust Avenue) parking garage. Registration takes place in the Praxair Cancer Center Lobby located on the first floor of the Stroock Building.

The purpose of Children’s Day is to introduce children to Danbury Hospital in a nonthreatening way by creating a fun-filled day of educational activities while at the same time promoting preventive health and safety geared toward the unique needs of children.

Special events include inspection of EMS vehicles, fire trucks, police cruiser, WOW (Wellness on Wheels) Van, and helicopter (the helicopter will arrive 11 am to noon, weather permitting); tours of the Emergency and Radiology Departments, the Duracell Center for Ambulatory Surgery and Pediatrics/Adolescent Unit; and three 40-minute performances — 10:30 am, 11:45 am and 1 pm —by John Farrell, singer/songwriter/storyteller in the John C. Creasy Center for Health Education auditorium. Seating is free, but limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

Other activities include face painting; clown entertainment by Dimples & Stripes; free health education and screening including vision, podiatry, blood pressure and height/weight profiles (including a blood pressure screening for adults, too); and special booths promoting good nutrition and exercise, Ask-A-Pediatrician, See Your Heart…Hear Your Heart, child identification, trauma prevention, and bicycle safety.

Danbury Hospital’s 13th Annual Children’s Day is made possible by the contributions of local sponsors including the Danbury Public Schools, Union Savings Bank, Danbury, Brookfield, New Fairfield and Newtown police and fire departments, and other community and civic-minded youth groups and organizations. There are a limited number of free giveaways while supplies last.

No preregistration is necessary. For more information about the 13th Annual Children’s Day at Danbury Hospital, call the hospital’s Marketing and Community Relations Department at 797-7247.
