Danbury Hospital Programs For

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

DANBURY –– Danbury Hospital, the Western Connecticut affiliate of the Yale Cancer Center, is offering low-cost mammography screening and education during October’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The programs include a low-cost mammography for new patients who schedule an appointment in October. The $99 special is being offered by Danbury Hospital’s Radiology Department in conjunction with Danbury Radiological Associates, PC. For an appointment call 797-7628. The program sponsors recommend that patients also schedule an appointment with their own physicians for a clinical breast exam.

The Connecticut Breast & Cervical Cancer Early Detection program has provided a special state grant to Danbury Hospital for women who are age 40 and older with no health insurance, or those with health insurance that excludes routine pap tests and mammograms, or those with an insurance deductible of $1,000 or more. For more information call 731-8668.

According to the American Cancer Society, women should do a breast self-examination monthly between the ages of 20 and 39 and should have a clinical breast examination by a doctor or nurse every three years.

At age 40 and above, women should continue to do a breast self-examination monthly. They should have an annual mammogram and an annual clinical breast examination by a doctor or nurse close to the time of the mammogram.

For more information about Danbury Hospital’s early detection programs call the marketing and community relations department at 797-7247.
