Town Players of Newtown will present Dancing at Lughnasa as the final show of the season at The Little Theatre.

Performances will begin November 16 and continue for four weekends.

Written by Brian Friel and being directed for Town Players by Sherry Asch, the 1990 drama is the story of five unmarried sisters — Kate, Maggie, Agnes, Rosie, and Christina Munday — who are eking out their lives in a small village in Ireland in 1936.

The audience meets the sisters at the time of the festival of Lughnasa, which celebrates the pagan god of the harvest with drunken revelry and dancing.

The action of the play is narrated through the memory of Michael, the illegitimate son of Christina, who recalls the five women who raised him.

The cast for the Town Players production features Rosemary Howard as Kate, the eldest of the Mundy sisters; Amy Petrucci as Rose, who is in her early 30s but acts much younger due to a developmental disability; Amy Cabot as Maggie, who acts as the chief family homemaker; Rachel Ames as Agnes, who knits gloves with Rose to earn money for the family; Emily Volpintesta as Chris, the youngest of the sisters; Phil Cook as Father Jack, the girls’ brother, a priest who has recently returned home after 25 years of living as a missionary; Miles Everett as Michael, the son of Chris and Gerry; and Patrick Kelly as Gerry, the charming, disarming father of Michael and an eternal optimist who believes he is meant for bigger things.

Performances will be Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm through December 8; and Sundays, November 25 and December 2, at 2 pm.

There will also be a special Thursday performance on December 6 at 8 pm.

In addition, ticket holders are invited to remain following the Sunday, November 25 matinee, when the cast will participate in a talkback program.
