Delia Is State Open Balance Beam Champion

Newtown High School's Emma Delia earned the balance beam championship at the State Open, held at Pomperaug High in Southbury, on March 3.

Delia had a score of 9.450 on the beam. She also placed second on uneven bars with a score of 9.425, and was eighth in the all around with a score of 35.200.

Teammate Ally Kenny tied for 28th on the balance beam with a score of 8.000, and was tied for 29th in the floor exercise with a score of 8.450. Kenny was named to the All-State Second team.

Delia will compete on the beam and bars in the New England Gymnastics Championships at Pinkerton Academy Field House in Derry, N.H., on March 10. Named to the All-State First Team, Delia has qualified to represent NHS and Connecticut at the National High School Gymnastics Association Senior Showcase Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla., this May.
