Dennis McLaughlin

Dennis "Denny" Aloysius McLaughlin, a Sandy Hook resident for more than 35 years, died August 30 in Somers Point, N.J., after vacationing with his children and their families in Ocean City, N.J. He was born June 21, 1941, in Elyria, Ohio, the seventh of nine children.

After graduating from high school in 1959, he embarked on a long and successful career in sales at Smith-Corona, Sharp Electronics, and Inflatable Packaging in Sandy Hook. In retirement, he was an active member of the Newtown Lions Club and an avid golfer. He enjoyed working in his yard, was fond of good joke, and was dedicated to his grandchildren.

His daughters, Elizabeth McLaughlin of Washington, DC; Michele McLaughlin of Alexandria, Va., and Rosalie DiLiberto of Forest Hills, N.Y.; his six grandchildren; his sisters, Mary Kenny, Agnes Blackley, and Stella Joyce; and his brothers Charles and Bill McLaughlin survive him. His beloved wife of 49 years, Gladys Garey McLaughlin; sister Ann McLaughlin, SND; and his brothers Gerard and James McLaughlin predeceased him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 3, at 11 am, at St Joseph's Church, 163 Whisconier Road, Brookfield.

Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, on Saturday from 9 to 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Newtown Lions Club Foundation/Sandy Hook Elementary Fund, newtownlions.org/pages/SHEF/shef.htm.
