Digital Art At Minor Library

ROXBURY — “Mark Wilson: Recent Work, 2006-2008,” an exhibit of colorful digital images by Mr Wilson, will be on view at Minor Memorial Library from Saturday, October 11, until Monday, November 17. The library board invites the public to a free opening reception on October 11 from 2 to 4 pm.

Mr Wilson wrote his own software to produce the highly original artworks. In reviewing his book Drawing With Computers, the science magazine Scientific American referred to the artist and his creations as “the new art we hope for one day.”

Major corporations including IBM, Apple Computer and ExxonMobil, and numerous museums including The Victoria and Albert Museum, Portland Art Museum and Museu de Arte Contemporanea have added Mr Wilson’s groundbreaking work to their collections.

The artist has participated in major exhibitions of computer art and is the recipient of an NEA fellowship and numerous grants from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts. He has taught and been a visiting artist at such well-known institutions as Yale, Carnegie-Mellon and the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Minor Memorial Library is handicapped accessible. Regular hours are Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm; Monday and Wednesday, 10 am to 7 pm; and Thursday and Friday, 10 am to 5 pm.
