Donald Seymour

Donald H. Seymour, 85, of Newtown, formerly of Ridgefield, died September 16, at the Laurel Ridge Health Care Center in Ridgefield, from complications of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

His loving wife of 43 years, Dr Iris Cook Seymour; sons, Jeffrey, Christopher, and Paul; step-daughters, Christine Grenell and Marjorie Kenney; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Nonnie Couvert and Marcia Hanson; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins survive him.

He was a graduate of Scarsdale, N.Y., high school and Williams College, Class of 1955, where he was a member of the singing group the Williams Octet. Mr Seymour served in the US Air Force as a pilot of F86 fighter jets for the NORAD defense system.

In 1965, he opened his automobile dealership, Seymour Chevrolet in Greenwich, which he ran until 1981. From 1976 to 2006, he was a resident of Ridgefield. When he moved to Newtown, he was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, FISH, and Kevin’s Community Center. His second career was his tax practice, which he maintained until 2016.

An enthusiastic hiker and sailor, Mr Seymour enjoyed many boating excursions and a number of world travels. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mr Seymour was a member of the United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook, where a Celebration of Life service will take place Saturday, November 10, at 11 am, followed by a luncheon at the church to which everyone is invited.
