Doniger Honored For Volunteerism

Newtown resident Nancy Doniger has been awarded the 2000 Above and Beyond Award from RYASAP, the Regional Youth/Adult Substance Abuse Project.

The organization is a coalition of youth and adults from Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Redding, Stratford, and Trumbull who are working together to address substance abuse, crime, and violence, and building on community strengths for a healthier greater Bridgeport region.

Ms Doniger is a senior editor at Hometown Newspapers and editor of the Monroe Courier. She was recognized for her comprehensive series of articles about asset-based community and youth development, a new approach to building healthier communities.

RYASAP’s Above and Beyond Award is presented annually to area volunteers for their outstanding commitment and dedicated service to their communities and to the region.

A resident of Newtown for 13 years, Nancy Doniger is married to Paul Doniger, who teaches high school English at the Gilbert School in Winsted. They have a son, Colin, who is with the US Army in Fort Riley, Kansas, and a daughter, Alexandra, who attends Newtown Middle School.
