"How to Make Easy Flower Arrangements at Home" will kick off the new season of The Town & Country Garden Club of Newtown on Wednesday, February 13.

Two of the club’s well-known blue-ribbon floral exhibitors — Barbara O’Connor and Arline Shanley — will share on how to make “last minute” arrangements.

No time to shop for centerpiece material? Then check your back yard, refrigerator, wine closet, gadget drawers, and cupboards. The message from the two presenters will enforce the idea that everyone can have some fun and win some smiles by drawing on their own creative personalities. The women will share easy tips and also explain some new concepts that will give new designers confidence and help experienced arrangers incorporate fresh ideas.

Many people have enjoyed the displays that Ms O’Connor and Ms Shanley have created for many town occasions over the years. They have been longtime donors of flower arrangements for the Holiday Festival Tea in the Alexandria Room each holiday season, many homes on Newtown Historical Society House and Garden Tours have been graced with their floral art, and The Newtown Lions Club Great Pumpkin Race and Great Pootatuck Duck Race events have both received donations from these two women.

Both of the previous Town & Country Club presidents have also designed and provided flowers for personal occasions, such as the weddings of both of Ms O’Connor’s granddaughters and the daughter of mutual friend (and fellow past club president) Barbara McCann.

The program will begin at 6:30 pm at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. The public is welcome and invited free of charge.

Reservations are not needed, but additional information is available by calling 203-426-5418.
