The CH Booth Library’s 10th Anniversary Turkey Trot Celebration Committee has announced a new layout for this year’s racecourse. The milestone event will take place on Thanksgiving morning, November 28. The Newtown 5K Turkey Trot Road Race and Fun Walk is an annual benefit for the CH Booth Library. Held in the scenic and historic center of Newtown, the Turkey Trot has become a community tradition and highlight for many families over the Thanksgiving weekend.

The new course will eliminate the climb up Schoolhouse Hill Road and bring runners back toward Queen Street on Wendover Road. The result will be a course that is mostly flat with a few gentle hills while it loops through local neighborhoods in the center of town. Additionally, the course will now start and end at Newtown Middle School, providing a single point for runners and spectators to gather. Walkers will be provided a similar, shorter course that will also begin and end at the same locations.

“The Turkey Trot is a fun, competitive event for runners of all ages that helps build a stronger community by supporting the library and its programs,” Turkey Trot Race Director Tom Long said. “The new layout will provide a great opportunity for family and friends to cheer on runners from Queen Street where they will be able to see the start, middle, and finish of the race.”

The new course design is pending USA Track & Field certification, and registration will open in the near future.

Sponsorship opportunities are available. Those interested in a sponsorship or volunteering with the race committee may send an e-mail to turkeytrot@chboothlibrary.org or call 203-313-5507.

The Cyrenius H Booth Library was a gift of Newtown’s benefactress, Mary Elizabeth Hawley and named after her maternal grandfather when it opened in 1932. The library is a cultural center of the community with a mission to promote the joy of lifelong learning, stimulate curiosity, support the exchange of ideas, and provide a welcoming gathering place for the community.
