First Place In Southington For Marching Band And Guard

The Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard performed at the USBands competition at Southington High School on Saturday, October 20.

The group scored 91.550 to place first in Group IV Open, narrowly outscoring Blackstone-Millville High School of Blackstone, Mass., by 0.025 points.

The NHS Marching Band & Guard received captions for best music, best effect, best color guard, and best percussion.

The USBands New England States Championships will be held on Saturday, October 27, at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium, New Britain. The Newtown band and guard will be one of more than 40 performance groups from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Adjudicators will score the ensembles on overall effect, color guard, percussion, music individual, music ensemble, and visual performance. Combined totals provide the final scores.
