Folklife Project Receives Grants

The Connecticut Folklife Project, a Danbury-based non-profit organization working to locate, document, preserve and present master traditional artists living in the greater Danbury area, has received a $1,000 grant from the Savings Bank of Danbury and $1,148 from the Connecticut Commission on Culture, Tourism and Film in support of its new World Music, Dance and Culture Series of concerts and events.

Judith Cook Tucker, co-founder and president of the organization, noted: “These generous grants, coupled with previous funding from Danbury Cultural Commission, Hermanns Holde Foundation and others, will help us bring authentic, top notch heritage performers to Danbury, and will enable us to keep ticket prices affordable.”

Most of the events will be held at Western Connecticut State University’s midtown campus, but some will be in conjunction with other area cultural organizations. The next concert is January 30, and will feature the noted Afro-Peruvian traditional and jazz fusion ensemble Gabriel Alegria and 4FutureMusic, with zapateo dancing by Huevito.

Spring performances by The Klezical Tradition, Trio Surcari, and MacTalla Mor (performing a traditional Celtic program) are being scheduled.
