Newtown High School’s football team earned the third seed in the Class LL state playoffs and will host No. 6 Darien in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 27. The game, to be held at Blue & Gold Stadium, will kick off at 6:30 pm.

The Nighthawks capped off an unbeaten, ten-win season with a 21-14 victory over visiting Masuk of Monroe on Thanksgiving Eve.

Newtown is one of four Class LL teams to go 10-0, and Darien went 9-1. Shelton is the top seed, Greenwich is second, Southington fourth, Fairfield Prep fifth, New Britain seventh, and New Canaan eighth. The seedings factor in bonus points earned by playing larger class size schools and teams with more victories.

Darien’s lone loss came to New Canaan which dropped two games this fall, also falling to Greenwich.

The Darien Blue Wave defeated Greenwich in last year’s Class LL title game, the team’s third consecutive state championship. Darien has reached a state title game in one class size or another every year since 2013.

Tickets for the matchup are $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets may be purchased online here or at the gate before the game.
