Free Health Insurance, Medicare Counseling At St V’s

BRIDGEPORT — St Vincent’s Medical Center is offering a free program of individual health insurance and Medicare counseling to the public every Wednesday from 10 am to noon in the main lobby of  the hospital. No appointment is necessary.

The one-to-one information sessions are conducted by St Vincent’s certified insurance counselor Gerd Weindling, who helps seniors explore their options in health insurance, supplemental coverage and later life care arrangements.

Ms Weindling answers questions regarding Medicare benefits, Medicare Supplemental, managed care and prescription plans, appeals, claims, medical bills, covered versus noncovered expenses, advanced directives, and assists individuals in filing Medicare and insurance forms.

In addition Ms Weindling will counsel individuals on selection of assisted-living or long-term care facilities and issues surrounding these options.

The program is a community outreach effort by St Vincent’s to help seniors obtain the medical benefits they need, and to make the best decisions about health insurance coverage.

In addition, arrangements may also be made for group presentations, including  a talk called “Family Matters,” which is geared to counseling adult children on how they can  review their parents’ ability to carry out their later life wishes and  prepare for the future.

For more information contact St Vincent’s at 203-576-5111.
