Freedom Of Choice For Kids

On Monday, November 29, master Waldorf educator Eugene Schwartz will give a talk entitled “Freedom of Choice and Freedom from Choice” at Housatonic Valley Waldorf School, 40 Dodgingtown Road, from 8 to 9:30 pm.

Mr Schwartz is a distinguished author and lecturer on educational topics. He is a veteran Waldorf teacher, the past director of teacher training at Sunbridge College, and the recipient of a Teaching Fellowship at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

His lecture will address questions including: What kinds of choices is it appropriate to give children at different ages? At what age does a child become able to discern between one hypothetical scenario and another? What effect does freedom have on children at different developmental stages? What is the difference between permissiveness, authoritarianism, and authority?

Waldorf education is a worldwide N–12 school movement fostering academic excellence and creativity through whole-child learning and integration of the arts. A suggested donation of $10 is requested. For directions or reservations (recommended), call 364-1113 or email HVWSA@waldorfct.org.
