Gloria C. Ryan passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019, at Maplewood at Newtown after a long illness. A lifelong New Englander, she was born in Waterville, Maine, on October 28, 1925, to William Chasse and Marie Jeanne Caron Chasse.

A graduate of Colby College, she went on to study social work at Boston College, where she met her husband, Vincent Paul Ryan, MD. She lived the majority of her adult life in Massachusetts, where she enjoyed gardening, sailing, reading, current events, and going to the beach. In her later years, she moved to Walnut Tree Village in Sandy Hook, where she was an active member of their current events club for many years.

She is preceded in death by her husband as well as her two brothers and a sister.

She is survived by her three children, Mary Jane Ryan of Walnut Creek, Calif., Stephanie Ryan of Sandy Hook, and John Ryan of Boston, Mass.; and four grandchildren, Meagan Gonzalez of Copenhagen, Denmark, Matthew Gonzalez of Newtown, Lily Schow of Boston, Mass., and Finn Grace Li of Oakland, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the World Wildlife Fund.
