Governor Dannel P. Malloy is expected to get an update sometime next week from officials involved in the ongoing state police probe into the 12/14 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, at which time he may learn when the report will be released publicly.

The governor would receive that update from the state’s attorney office, which is overseeing the state police investigation into the deaths of 20 first-graders and six educators at the school, according to Andrew Doba, a spokesman for the governor.

“We understand that the world is waiting for this report, and we want it done as quickly as possible. We also want it done right. Making sure the state’s attorney’s office has the independence it needs to do the job is critical, and we are trying to strike the right balance,” Mr Doba said Wednesday.

Mr Doba said that at some point either the governor’s office or the state’s attorney’s office would announce when the public report would be released.

Danbury State’s Attorney Stephen J. Sedensky III has said that his public report, which would summarize the state police’s investigation, may not be released until October.

Mr Sedensky was not available for comment on Thursday.

There are many factors involved in concluding the state police investigation and submitting a final public report on it, Mr Sedensky has said.

Mr Sedensky has said that it is more important that the investigation be done correctly and thoroughly, rather than quickly.

Initially, officials had said that the Sedensky report might be released as early as June.
