Gunnery Hosting Lecture By Seeds Of Peace Co-Founder

WASHINGTON DEPOT — The Amnesty International group at The Gunnery invites the public for a lecture by Janet Wallach from Seeds of Peace in the Congregational Church Meeting House on Friday, April 2, at 7 pm.

Ms Wallach and her husband, the late John Wallach, founded Seeds of Peace in 1993 after the first World Trade Center bombing. Its motto is “Empowering the Children of War to End the Cycle of Violence.”

Every summer the organization runs three sessions at a camp in Maine which brings together children from all sides of world conflicts: Arab/Israeli, Indian/Pakistani, Turkish/Greek Cypriot, Afghanis, and the Balkans to learn about the human face of their peoples’ sworn enemies and to take leadership in the search for coexistence. In addition the group sponsors periodic reunions and meetings and facilitates communication between the separated peoples to reinforce the camp experiences for the young “Seeds.”

The Amnesty International group is sponsoring Ms Wallach’s lecture as part of a school-wide Diversity/World Awareness Initiative during the ensuing week.

Admission to the lecture is free. Call Paula Krimsky at 860-868-7334 extension 251 for additional information.
