Gymnasts Place Fourth In State

Newtown High School’s gymnastics team came in fourth in the Class L state championship at Jonathan Law High in Milford on February 23.

The Nighthawks scored 130.400, edging fifth-place Glastonbury (129.800). Greenwich (137.950) was first, and Fairfield Ludlowe (136.800) and Fairfield Warde (132.225) followed in second and third.

Marisa Choi had Newtown’s best score on the vault with an 8.625 and had an 8.4 on the floor.

Ally Kenny recorded a 9.0 on the floor, and took home scores of 8.50 on both the vault and bars.

Hannah Jojo scored an 8.75 on bars, had an 8.6 on floor, an 8.55 on vault, and an 8.175 on the balance beam.

Mary Locke competed on the vault, bars, and beam, logging her best score on the vault with an 8.4. Brynn Reilly competed on bars and floor, scoring an 8.0 on her floor exercise.
