HARNETT MUSEUM OF ART TO PRESENT ‘FIGURES OF THINKING’ OCTOBER 18

AVV 8-1 #708087

RICHMOND, VA. — “Figures of Thinking: Convergences in Contemporary Cultures” will be on view October 18–February 10 in the Joel and Lila Harnett Museum of Art.

Despite differences in cultural backgrounds, experiences and approaches, the 14 women artists in this exhibition explore some of the connecting issues linking contemporary global society. Influenced by migrant cultures and ready information through the Internet, their multimedia artworks present broad ideas of what culture, origin, home, identity and human values might signify in a time of accelerated globalization. Meaning is found in how each artist weaves her personal narrative into artistic representation, allowing accessibility through shared experience and embedded knowledge.

Organized by Pamela Auchincloss/Art Management, New York, the exhibition’s curators are Vicky A. Clark, independent curator, Pittsburgh, Penn., and Sandhini Poddar, assistant curator, Asian art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York City.

The Joel and Lila Harnett Museum of Art is in the George M. Modlin Center for the Arts. For information, www.museums.richmond.edu or 804-289-8276.
