Newtown High School’s hockey team ended the calendar year with a 6-3 win over Lyman Hall-Haddam Killingworth at Danbury Ice Arena on December 31.

The Nighthawks, including a 4-0 loss to Westhill of Stamford on December 28 — a game in which goaltender Patrick McLoughlin made 24 saves — begin the season with a 2-1-1 record.

In the win over Lyman Hall-Haddam Killingworth, Jonathan Lovorn scored a hat-trick, and Sean Ferris, Domenic Cartelli, and Cooper McLean also hit the net. Brian Gallagher, Brian Gregory, and Connor Hanley all had assists. Newtown backup goaltender Nick Chaloux made 16 saves.

Newtown will visit Watertown-Pomperaug on January 4. The Hawks return to home ice when Tri-Town skates into Danbury for a 5:30 pm contest on January 8.
