‘FRONT ROOM: ELLSWORTH KELLY’ WILL OPEN AT BMA NOV. 14

AVV 8-6 #708340

BALTIMORE, MD. — The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) will present the exhibition, “Front Room: Ellsworth Kelly,” on view from November 14 to February 10.

The BMA’s Front Room series continues with a focus exhibition of select paintings and works on paper from this influential artist. Four or five major works by Ellsworth Kelly drawn from the museum’s collection are presented with a major promised gift and other works from private collections in the Baltimore area.

Kelly’s powerful shaped canvases, which defied traditional notions of framing and symmetry in paintings, will transform the Front Room into a spare and spacious environment for viewing art, and will allow the sculptural dimension of his work to come forth.

The BMA has had a long commitment to Kelly that began nearly 30 years ago with the acquisition of “Diagonal with Curve II,” 1978, and has grown with the addition of another major painting, a powerful stainless steel sculpture, and an important group of prints, many of them gifts from the artist — a frequent visitor to the BMA.

The Baltimore Museum of Art is at 10 Art Museum Drive. For information, 443-573-1700 or www.artbma.org.
