September 20 marks Newtown’s 21st Annual Health and Public Safety Fair and the fair’s planners — Mae Schmidle, Della Schmid, Natalie Dos Santos, Donna Culbert and Judy Blanchard — are inviting the entire community to visit and take advantage of free health screenings, information, health enhancing advice and tons of giveaways.

Residents can visit the fair, being held again this year at the Newtown Middle School on Queen Street from 9 am to 1 pm.

“Folks can drop by for a quick visit or stay for as long as they like,” Ms Culbert told The Newtown Bee. “There are numerous free drawings, including a bicycle from the Bethel Bike Shop sponsored by the Newtown Prevention Council; gift certificates to many of Newtown’s restaurants and eateries to honor Family Day; and promotions from many of our local businesses.”

A new contest this year will give Holly the calf a middle name. Every year, Newtown’s Paproski Family of Castle Hill Farm provide a cow or calf to the Health Fair to promote Newtown’s agricultural heritage, and as a unique “special guest” for children and animal lovers to visit.

“Holly is a new member of the Paproski Family with a special story, Ms Culbert said. “Holly was a gift, given to Stephanie Paproski from her fiancé, Dan Kearns. She represents something very significant: the union of two longstanding Newtown dairy farming families as well as future local milk production.”

The health fair organizers are looking for the Newtown community to give Holly a middle name, Ms Culbert said. Name suggestions can be submitted electronically via e-mail to donna.culbert@newtown-ct.gov; or drop off name suggestions in writing at the Newtown Health District office in the Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street; The Children’s Adventure Center, 14 Riverside Road, or at The Newtown Bee offices, 5 Church Hill Road.

The Paproski family will pick the winning name and the prize will be a Family Fun pack to Castle Hill Farm, including Corn Maze, Hay Ride, and Pumpkin picking.
