Helen (Killory) McCarthy, 86, of Fairfield, the wife of the late Dr Matthew James McCarthy, died peacefully, July 13, in Fairfield, with her family by her side. She was born in Quincy, Mass., to Mary Veronica and Michael Joseph Killory.

Her children and their spouses, Matthew and Arlene McCarthy of Newtown, Richard McCarthy of Bridgeport, Joanne and Mark Ryan of Trumbull, Patricia Olsen of Fairfield, and Mary Eileen and Michael Findorak of Stratford; her brother, Michael Killory and his wife Irene; 13 cherished grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren survive Mrs McCarthy. She was predeceased by two grandchildren.

Mrs McCarthy was a graduate of Bridgewater State Teacher’s College and received her master's degree in history from Boston University.

She was an active member of Our Lady of Assumption Church and a longtime member of the bowling group at Nutmeg Lanes. She also loved to quilt, play bridge, and take photographs.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, July 16, at 10 am, directly at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, in Fairfield. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery. Friends may greet her family Monday, July 15, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, in Fairfield Center.

The family would like to thank both the staff at Cambridge Manor and Constellation Hospice for the excellent care their mother received.
