Helena Ellison Huddleston, 95, of Newtown, formerly of Lakeway, Texas, died at home November 12. She was born in Norman, Okla., on November 14, 1921. Her parents, Anna Pierson Ellison and Dr Gayfree Ellison, met at Augustana Hospital in Chicago.

Mrs Huddleston graduated from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, and was married in 1943 to James G. Huddleston.

In the 1940s, they were pioneers in the oil industry, moving within the United States until 1955 when they were transferred to Venezuela by Phillips Petroleum. Their work also took them to Kerala, India, and Kuwait. She and her husband retired in 1973 to Lakeway, Texas, where James died in 2002.

Mrs Huddleston was an avid golfer, traveler, bridge and mahjong player, and was accomplished in many crafts. Her contributions include years as a hospital and library volunteer, as well as being an active member of the Episcopal Church.

She moved to Newtown in 2013 to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She was involved in the Newtown, Bethel, and Brookfield Senior Centers and Trinity Episcopal Church.

Her daughter, Nancy Huddleston Cole; her son-in-law, Benjamin Keeney; grandchildren, Brian Lott and Anna Lott; two great-grandchildren; and three nephews survive her.

Her brother, Gayfree Ellison, Jr, predeceased her in 1932.

Services will be conducted at Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street, Newtown, on December 2, at 10:30 am. Interment will be in Lakeway, Texas.
