HEMMA (High school Elementary Musicianship Mentoring Association) has scheduled a Sunday, June 9,  event for a student recital, dinner, and performances by local bands in Newtown High School’s cafetorium.

According to Grace Clark, a junior at Newtown High School who started HEMMA as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award this school year, the event will start with the student recital from 2 pm to 5 pm, the dinner will be available between 5 pm and 6 pm, and the performances by the local bands will happen between 6 pm and 9 pm.

Grace expects up to 70 students will participate during the student recital.

The NHS junior also said she is looking forward to the day because she feels the hard work of the students, mentors and HEMMA board members will all come together for the seven hour event.

The event will be open to the public, with ticket prices set at $5. While the menu for the dinner is still being decided, Grace said she is expecting finger foods to be served.

While the event is happening, Girl Scout Troop 50651 will also be holding a silent auction, unconnected to HEMMA, to raise money for the troop.

Three local bands, Amy and Emily, King Me, and Time and Again are set to perform during the final three hours of the event. Both Amy and Emily and King Me are made up of NHS students, and Time and Again is made up of NHS students and NHS graduates.
