HIV/AIDS Eligibility Changes

More people living with HIV/AIDS will be able to get help securing state-of-the-art drug treatment as a result of new maximum-income qualifying levels that became effective January 1.

This change should particularly benefit those people who are employed but do not have health insurance, or who have already reached their insurance limits.

Under the new standard, a family of two can earn up to $44,240 a year, or up to 400 percent of the federal poverty level, and still be eligible for help. Until now, the level has been 300 percent.

The Connecticut AIDS Drug Assistance Program (CADAP) currently has a formulary of more than 70 HIV-treatment drugs approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Applications for assistance may be obtained by the Connecticut Department of Social Services at 800/233-2503.
