Newtown High School's hockey team won its fifth straight game with a 7-5 victory over visiting Masuk of Monroe, at Danbury Ice Arena, on January 30.

The Nighthawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead and traded goals with the Panthers for much of the night before holding on. Domenic Cartelli, Scott McLean, and David Brestovansky each had two goals, and Jack Hanley had the other.  McLean and Cartelli both had a trio of assists, Brestovansky had two, and Matthais Paltauf and Scott Bauer added helpers.

The Panthers made it a 3-2 game before two straight Newtown tallies got the three-goal edge back for the Hawks. Masuk again answered with two more net-finders before Cartelli's second goal made it 6-4. Masuk trailed by just a goal late in the third when Brestovansky iced the win with an empty netter.

McLean had his 100th career point during the Masuk game, and Cartelli went through the 100 point mark in a recent game. They become the first players in school history to score 100 points in their careers.
