Hospital Offers PVD Screening

WATERBURY — If you’re a smoker, a diabetic, are overweight, have high cholesterol, or experience leg pain when walking, you may be at risk of peripheral vascular disease (PVD), a condition in which the arteries of the legs become clogged or narrowed. Left untreated, PVD can make it difficult to walk and can even lead to health-endangering conditions, such as gangrene.

Waterbury Hospital will offer a free screening and consultation called “Legs for Life – Peripheral Vascular Disease Screening” from 11 am to 4:30 pm, September 21 in the Bizzozero Conference Room. Last year’s program filled to capacity quickly, so interested participants are encouraged to call 203/573-6257 to register as soon as possible.

Radiologists Duncan Belcher, MD, and Stephen Stein, MD, will lead this program. The screening will take about half an hour. Due to overwhelming demand, this year’s program is only open to those who did not attend last year’s screening.
