Hospital Plans Preemie Reunion

BRIDGEPORT — More than 400 babies and their families have been invited to the annual Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NBICU) Holiday Reunion 2 to 4 pm Sunday, December 5, at Bridgeport Hospital. The babies spent their first days of life in the unit during the past year and went home with their families when healthy enough to do so.

The NBICU recently moved to larger, brighter and better designed quarters as part of Bridgeport Hospital’s three-year, $30 million modernization program. Families will have the opportunity to tour the new unit during the reunion.

“The annual reunion is always a highlight of the year for the staff,” said Dr Robert Herzlinger, the NBICU’s medical director. “It is very rewarding to see the babies, some of whom weighed less than two pounds at birth, in good health and looking at a bright future.”
