Drug Charges

Police report that midday on March 29, they took Elizabeth Doty, 31, of 33 Bennetts Bridge Road into custody, arresting her on a warrant listing charges of possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, and risk of injury to a child.

The charges stem from a police investigation into a complaint which they received on February 3.

Police said they held Doty on $500 bail for arraignment on March 30 in Danbury Superior Court.

Intersection Accident

Police report that motorist Christine Pfeiffer, 46, of 24 The Boulevard, who was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer SUV, was waiting at a stop sign at the southern end of Edmond Road and was preparing to make a left turn onto eastbound Church Hill Road at about 9 am on March 28, as motorist Anna Bova, 39, of 98 Hanover Road was driving a 2010 Subaru Forester SUV eastward on Church Hill Road.

The Ford then attempted to make the left turn, but collided with Subaru, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Pfeiffer a written warning for a stop sign violation.

Sandy Hook Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident on southbound Toddy Hill Road, near its intersection with Berkshire Road, about 3 pm on March 29.

Motorist Maria Piro, 79, of Southbury, who was driving a 2000 Subaru Legacy station wagon southward on Toddy Hill Road, was attempting to make a left turn into a commercial driveway, police said.

At that time, however, CJ Capozziello, Jr, 72, of 12 Pilgrim Lane, who was driving a commercial 2009 Ford van southward behind the Subaru, attempted to pass the Subaru on the left, resulting in a collision, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Capozziello an infraction for unsafe passing.

Botsford Collision

A two-vehicle collision occurred on northbound South Main Street, near its intersection with Button Shop Road, about 2:30 pm on March 29, police report.

In that incident, motorist Shannon Ganley, 20, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2007 Saturn Ion sedan, struck the rear end of a 2010 Subaru Outback SUV driven by Jeanne Gay, 53, of Easton, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Ganley a written warning for following too closely.

Graffiti

After learning that police held an arrest warrant, a youth under age 18 turned himself/herself over to police at the police station on the morning of April 1 and was charged with six offenses involving spray-paint vandalism, police said.

Police charged the youth with one count of first-degree criminal mischief, one count of second-degree criminal mischief, and four counts of third-degree criminal mischief.

The crimes involved multiple instances of graffiti being spray-painted onto South Main Street businesses during February, police said. Police received an initial complaint on February 6 from Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street.

Following arrest processing, police released the youth on $250 bail for an April 16 court appearance, State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

Sharp Curve

Giancarlo Galeano, 30, of Meriden, who was driving a commercial 2000 Ford F-450 truck eastward on Botsford Hill Road about 3:19 am on March 27, traveled beneath the Housatonic Railroad overpass and then realized the road made a sharp turn to the left there, police said.

The truck did not negotiate that curve and drove straight into an earthen embankment, police said.

Galeano was not injured. Police said they issued him a written warning for making an improper turn.

Wasserman Way

Motorist Scott Levins, 16, of Monroe was driving a 1994 Nisan Altima sedan eastward on Wasserman Way, east of its intersection with Nunnawauk Road, about 7:42 am on March 31, when he lost control of the auto, drove off the eastbound road shoulder, rode up onto a metal guardrail and then rolled over, with the auto coming to rest on its roof, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Levins to Danbury Hospital for treatment of a shoulder injury, police said. Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the accident. Levins received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.

Cellphone

Police report they saw motorist Sanjeev Srivastava, 49, of 5 Cedar Hill Road driving southward on Main Street near the police station at about 4:50 pm March 28 while talking on a handheld cellphone, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Srivastava with driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered vehicle, and talking on a handheld cellphone while driving.

Police released Srivastava on a written promise to appear in court on April 12.

Flat Swamp Road

Police report that at about 12:45 am on March 30, an unknown vehicle struck a tree at 74 Flat Swamp Road, near that road's intersection with Jangling Plain Road in Dodgingtown.

That crash damaged three trees and the lawn at that property, police said. The damaged vehicle was towed away from the scene before police were notified.

Police said they believe the vehicle that did the damage is a late 1990s model Honda, which would have body damage to its right-front quadrant. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Deer Onto Car

Motorist Kerly Fattibene, 30, of Brookfield was driving a 2005 Toyota Prius southward and approaching 88 The Boulevard at about 6:44 am on April 3, when a deer jumped from the road shoulder and struck the hood of the auto, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement. Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the accident.

Evading Responsibility

Police report that at about 8:15 am on April 2, an unknown motorist who was driving an unknown vehicle, struck a commercial 2010 Ford E-250 van, which was parked in the Misty Vale Deli & General Store parking lot at 51 Berkshire Road.

The impact damaged the driver's side of the van. The offending motorist drove away from scene without reporting the accident.

The vehicle that struck the van probably is light blue in color. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Officer Scott Smith at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Burglary/Larceny

Police received a report on the night of April 2 that a home on Pocono Road in Hawleyville had been burglarized, involving the theft of some electronics from the premises.

Pocono Road links Mt Pleasant Road to Old Hawleyville Road. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at 203-426-5841. Detective Jason Frank is the investigator.

Drug Charges

Police report they received a request for medical assistance in connection with a possible drug overdose that had occurred in Riverside at 138 Underhill Road, Unit 12, so they went there to investigate at about 9 pm April 2.

Police said that after interviewing her, they arrested Rebecca Carrafiello, 20, of that address, on charges of possession of narcotics, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Carrafiello was released on $100 bail for an April 17 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, John A. Testani, Jr, 38, of Danbury went to the police station about 1 pm on April 4 and was charged with two counts of second-degree harassment, police report.

The charges stem from messages that Testani allegedly left on the victim's voice mail last September, police said.

After processing, police released Testani on $200 bail for an April 17 court appearance.

School Bus

Police report that Edward Alicea, 51, of 22 Bonnie Brae Drive was driving a 2001 GMC school bus eastward in the Newtown High School parking lot at about 6:18 pm on April 4, when he started to make a left turn, but struck a light post, causing the light post to fall. There were no passengers on the bus.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement. Sandy Hook firefighters responded to the accident.
