Late Monday morning, fellow interfaith association member Newtown Congregational Church posted on its Facebook page: "As members of the communal Body of Christ, we denounce the act of mass gun violence that occurred at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, TX yesterday."

According to the Associated Press, a man dressed in black tactical-style gear and armed with an assault rifle opened fire inside a church in a small south Texas community on Sunday, November 5, killing 26 people and wounding about 20 others. The gunman was found dead in his vehicle, which had crashed a short distance from the church.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has called the incident, which took the lives of people ages 5 to 72, the deadliest mass shooting in the state's history.

President Trump has called for flags to be lowered to honor those killed. Flags are to remain lowered until sunset Thursday, November 9.

The Resiliency Center of Newtown, which formed in the wake of 12/14, reminded residents on Monday that they should "reach out to us if you need any help."
