James V. “Jim” Pendergast, 53, of New Milford, formerly of Newtown, died September 1, with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 6, 1964, in Bridgeport, the son of John V. Pendergast and Katherine (Kriss).

Mr Pendergast grew up in Sandy Hook, and after attending St Rose School and graduating from Immaculate High School in Danbury, he went on to become an aircraft technician and was employed by Pepsico for 32 years. He traveled the world with work and loved getting to enjoy the different culinary tastes of many countries. He enjoyed gardening, air shows, and researching family genealogy, which goes back many generations to the 1800s in Sandy Hook.

He loved the Yankees with a passion. Spending time with his precious family, enjoying the outside, or laughing over old movies brought him great joy. Mr Pendergast was always ready to lend a helping hand. He faithfully served at his church, which he loved. His loved ones say he was a man of integrity and honorable character.

Mr Pendergast will mostly be remembered for his love and devotion for his family and friends and for his love and faith in the Lord, which was so evident in his life. Those who knew him say his forever gentle, loving spirit was a complete blessing to anyone who was lucky enough to have known him, and his never-bitter attitude throughout his journey was an amazing example to all.

His loved ones say there is no doubt that Mr Pendergast got to hear these words, as quoted from Matthew 25:21, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Mr Pendergast will be missed by his cherished wife, Carrie (Pratt); their children, Jeremy, Andrew, and Rachel of New Milford; his parents, John and Katherine; his stepmother, Anna; his brother, Joseph Pendergast of North Carolina; his sister, Karen Curran of Newtown and her husband, David; and his stepsister, Cindy Marino of Seymour, who survive him.

His brother, Kevin Pendergast; and stepbrother, Robert Marino, predeceased him.

Mr Pendergast’s family is incredibly grateful for all of the love and support given from precious friends, family, and the church during this time. Special thanks to the angel caregivers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and to Mr Pendergast’s work family at Pepsico for their love and support, which is incredibly appreciated.

Following a Celebration of Life service on September 5, burial took place in New Milford Center Cemetery.
