John F. Smey

John F. Smey, 88, of Newtown, beloved husband of Grace (Hanz) Smey, died on April 26 in Danbury Hospital.

Born in Slovenia, Mr Smey resided in both Bridgeport and Fairfield before moving to Newtown 30 years ago. He was a retired industrial painter. He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church in Fairfield and a member of the St Joseph’s Society (KSKJ).

In addition to his devoted wife, he is survived by his son, John J. Smey and his wife, Ann, of Marlborough; one granddaughter, Lynn Smey, of Orlando; one grandson, John K. Smey, of Colchester; one brother, Joseph Smey of Meriden; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral services were held on April 29 in the Lesko Miner Funeral Home, 155 Main Street in Monroe, and at Holy Cross Church. Burial followed in St Michael Cemetery.
