John "Jack" E. Farrell, 89, of Westport, the beloved husband of 58 years to Marianne Farrell, died peacefully at home on December 3. He was born in Chicago, son of Rose and Ernest Farrell, and was an avid athlete and outdoorsman.

In addition to his wife, his children, Susan K. Vasone and Kathryn R. Mawicke, both of Newtown, and Mark E. Farrell of Westport, survive him. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Victoria, Nicholas, Kaitlyn, Jason, and Samantha; his great-granddaughter; and his nephew.

His parents and his brother, James W. Farrell, predeceased him.

Mr Farrell graduated from Bradley University having achieved a BA and MBA. He was a US Army veteran serving in the CIC in Germany following World War II.

He moved to Westport in 1968 and had been a resident since. In 1996, he retired from the Continental Can Company after a 40-year career as the head of marketing, research, and development.

A lover of classical music, Mr Farrell often attended the opera in New York City with his wife. He was a passionate and talented golfer and enjoyed matches with his good friends at Brooklawn Country Club and, of course, his lovely wife. He was also an active member of the Y's Men of Westport/Weston. His loved ones say he was a kind and caring person, always ready to help anyone in need.

Friends may greet Mr Farrell's family on Friday, December 8, from 4 to 7 pm, at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield Center.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 9, at 11 am, directly at Christ and Holy Trinity Church, 75 Church Lane, Westport. A reception at the church will immediately follow the service. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ and Holy Trinity Church, 55 Myrtle Avenue, Westport CT 06880.
