SYRACUSE, N.Y. — “Sueños: Celebrating the Surreal” is on view at The Point of Contact Gallery through September 21.

Titled after the Spanish translation for “dreams” and in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, “Sueños: Celebrating the Surreal” highlights works by contemporary Latin American artists who share in the characteristics of dream-like imagery. All works in the show are from Syracuse University’s permanent collections.

Featuring works by Salvador Dalí, Mauricio Lasansky, Joseph Kugielsky, Adàl Maldonado, Pedro Roth, and others, “Sueños” is a collaborative project between Community Folk Art Center, Light Work, Point of Contact Gallery and Syracuse University Art Galleries. “The Tower,” and “The Last Supper” are two works by Newtown artist Joseph Kugielsky (b 1951, Buenos Aires) that center the exhibition. Mr Kugielsky offered an artist’s talk during the exhibition’s opening reception on September 7. He was also a guest speaker the prior afternoon for a class at Syracuse University.

Curated by Natalie McGrath, Point of Contact’s assistant director and an art history graduate student, with exhibition design consultation from Professor Juan Juarez of Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, the exhibition reveals the depth of the university and gallery’s collections and the wide-ranging art that falls within the parameters of a dream.
