Malloy Working On Plan For $365 Million Shortfall

HARTFORD (AP) — Governor Dannel P. Malloy says he’ll soon offer a plan to state lawmakers for closing Connecticut’s current $365 million budget deficit.

The Democrat said Monday the proposal for addressing the shortfall will be ready within two weeks.

Democratic legislative leaders, who control the General Assembly, haven’t set a date for a special legislative session to vote on the plan, but have asked the rank-and-file to set aside time during the week before Christmas for possible action.

House Republican leader Lawrence Cafero on Monday called for a bipartisan approach to the special session, similar to last year’s special session on a job creation bill that passed with strong Democratic and Republican support. He said the session won’t be protracted if both parties and their staffs cooperate ahead of time.
