Margaret Svihra Burns

Retired From Harvey Hubbell Company

Margaret Svihra Burns, 92, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late Winfield Burns, died October 27 at her home. Born in Dovolaba, Czechoslovakia, she was the daughter of Michael and Mildred Bendik Svihra, and was a resident of Bridgeport before moving to Fairfield 47 years ago.

Her memory will be cherished by her family including one sister, Helen Rooney, of Rock Hill, S.C.; four nieces, Rosemarie Abric of Newtown, Carol Sequin of Beacon Falls, Patricia Piroh of Milford, and Linda Vaught of Rock Hill, S.C.; one nephew, Richard Rooney of Guilford; four great-nieces; four great-nephews and their children; and two devoted caregivers, Tatlyn Johnson of Bridgeport and Phyliss Daley of New Haven. In addition to her husband, two sisters, Emma Fadis and Martha Piroh predeceased her.

Mrs Burns was an assembler for Harvey Hubbell Company, retiring in 1975, and was a member of the company’s Quarter Century Club. She belonged to Salem Lutheran Church and the Fairfield Seniors. She possessed a terrific sense of humor and enjoyed sharing her time with family, friends, and faithful canine companion, Ginger. Gardening, traveling to Europe with her family, playing bingo, and bowling with friends were among her many activities.

Funeral services were held on October 31 in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, Fairfield Center and in Salem Lutheran Church, with the Rev William Howard officiating. Burial followed in Mountain Grove Cemetery.
