Marjorie Alice (Garvey) Woods was born in May 1922, in Burlington, Vt., to Harry and Alice Garvey. She was the youngest of seven (five girls and two boys). She grew up in Vermont, mostly in Hinesburg, where she went through the school system and graduated high school in 1940.

She met and married John Woods in the early 1940s and had two sons, John (Jaci) and Gary (Debbie), and two daughters, Alice (Boyd) and Sally (Curtis), who predeceased her in 2018.

Marjorie was also the proud grandmother of seven, step-grandmother of seven, great-grandmother of 15, step-great-grandmother of nine, and great-great-grandmother of one.

She lived in Newtown, Danbury, and Brookfield while in Connecticut, later retiring to Florida in 1983. She held various jobs while raising her family and caring for her parents and others. Her door was always open to anyone who needed shelter or care.

Marjorie loved her family and friends unconditionally. She had a forgiving nature; was non-judgemental, creative, and hardworking; had a great sense of humor; loved to dance; was always doing for others; and was strong in her faith.

Marjorie was a proud member of the American Legion Auxilary, Unit No. 202 in Newtown and The Eight & Forty, Salon No. 45 of Fairfield County.

Marjorie was an amazing woman who truly made a difference. Her passing has left a whole in our hearts and a void in our lives. She is missed. God called his angel home on January 13, 2019.

There will be a service to celebrate her life on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at 11 am, in Newtown United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook.
