Mawdsley Sets School Record As Track Teams Compete

Members of Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ track and field teams competed in the Southern Connecticut Conference Last Chance Qualifier Meet at New Haven’s Floyd Little Athletic Center on January 29. Sarah Mawdsley set a school record and several Nighthawks had standout performances as they gear up for the conference and state championships. This was the final regular-season meet before the start of the postseason, which gets going with the South-West Conference championships at Floyd Little Athletic Center on February 6, beginning at 5 pm.

Mawdsley broke the 3200 meter indoor record with a time of 11:37.10 to place second in the meet; the previous mark was held by Katie McGovern (11:37.81) since 1990.

Boys’ 600: 14. Dylan Bartlett, 1:33.97.
