Nancy P. Conover

Nancy P. Conover, 77, of Guilford, formerly a longtime resident of Newtown, died peacefully June 28, surrounded by her family, after a sudden illness. She was the beloved wife of Scott Conover and the daughter of the late Anita Mentes and Wilbur Pyle. She was born in Ridgewood, N.J., and received her associate's degree from Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vt.www.guilford.audubon.org or St Martin de Porres Academy at www.saintmartinacademy.org.

Nancy and Scott married in Ridgewood after meeting and working together at Federal Paper Board.

She dedicated her life to raising her family. She was very active and involved in multiple civic, church, and school organizations. She was a board member of New Haven Home Recovery, a volunteer at Martin St de Porres Academy, member of the Guilford Garden Club, founding member of the "Cultured Pearls" book club, and active in the North Madison Congregational Church. She loved to read, golf, play bridge, and spend time with her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, wonderful mother, and cherished grandmother, and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Her husband of 54 years; her three children and spouses, Beth and Mike Berestecky of Madison, Scott Jr and Pam Conover of Baltimore, Md., and Christine and Mark Holland of Needham, Mass.; her sisters Joyce Capela and Debbie Hlava; and her seven grandchildren, Michael, Lauren, and Reed Berestecky, Hap and Teddy Conover, and Andrew and Will Holland; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry her strong spirit, memory, and legacy, survive Mrs Conover. Her sister, Lois Timmerman, and brother, Bud Mentes predeceased her.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the North Madison Congregational Church, 1271 Durham Road, Madison, on Saturday, July 9, at 1 pm.
