Nature Walk At Orchard Hill, Sunday

The Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown, with the cooperation of Newtown Lions Club and the Newtown Parks and Recreation Department, is planning a nature walk for Sunday, June 1, between 2 and 4 pm (the program will run until 5, but those planning to participate are asked to arrive no later than 4 so that they can enjoy the full walk).

The walk will be within the Orchard Hill Nature Center, so participants should plan to meet in the parking area near the nature center’s sign on Huntingtown Road.

Families are encouraged to hike the mile and a half trail through areas where many native wildflowers can be seen among stately trees and meadows. There is even a brook with an amazing waterfall and remnants of an old mill from 1855. Bob Schmidt has been making plant ID signs to post along the walk, which walk leaders will use to quiz those on the walks.

Ten nature related questions will be posted along the walk, and prizes awarded for those who answer them correctly. Refreshments will be served.

For additional information call club president Emi Lydem at 426-5495 or Margareta Kotch, 426-5426.
