New Musical Season At Richter

DANBURY — Musicals at Richter, Fairfield County’s longest-running outdoor theatre, is pleased to announce its 2000 summer season under the stars. Shows this season will include Stephen Schwartz’ fanciful classic Godspell, June 15 through July 1; the Andrew Lloyd Webber blockbuster Evita, July 6-22; and the quintessential tap musical, 42nd Street, July 27 to August 12.

Performances are outdoors Friday through Sunday evenings at 8:30 pm at Richter Arts Center (next to Richter Park Golf Course), 100 Aunt Hack Road.

Reduced price preview performances are the first Thursday of each run (June 15, July 6 and 27).

Tickets for the mainstage musicals are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $10 for children or students; group and subscription rates are available. Admission for Thursday preview performances is $6.

Grounds open at 7:15 pm for picnicking, with curtain time at 8:30 pm. Chair rentals are available with advance reservation. For reservations and further information, call the box office at 748-6873

Fairy Tale Theatre

Musicals at Richter will also continue its popular Fairy Tale Theatre series for children on Saturday mornings at 11 am. Performed by an ensemble of young actors under the direction of educator Elyse Jasensky, the productions will feature music, arts and crafts activities, and plenty of audience participation.

Shows this season include Snow White and Rumplestiltskin, June 17; Cinderella, July 1; The Princess and The Pea and The Musicians of Bremen Town, July 8; and The Wizard of Oz, July 22.

Fairy Tale Theatre productions will be held rain or shine; shows will be held inside the Arts Center in the case of rain. Tickets for these performances are $5.

Now in its 16th season, Musicals at Richter is Fairfield County’s longest-running outdoor summer theatre. Nestled in the hills of western Danbury, the Arts Center stage has served as the scenic backdrop for over 35 musicals produced by Musicals at Richter, as well as a professional springboard for hundreds of up-and-coming performers.
