New York Road Runners Club (NYRR) announced on January 21 that The Newtown Memorial Fund, Inc, a sustainable fund created to support those affected by 12/14, will be an official Charity Partner of the New York City Half Marathon, taking place on March 16.

New York Road Runners is the world’s premier community running organization, seeking to improve overall health and well-being by championing a lifelong commitment to running. This honorable distinction provides a block of automatic entries in the race and enables individuals worldwide to join the Newtown Memorial Fund team to raise funds on the nonprofit’s behalf.

Runners registered for the race will be able to accept donations online to easily manage and track their progress toward their fundraising goals for Newtown Memorial Fund.

The 2014 NYC Half will take runners on a 13.1-mile tour of New York City. Led by a talent-packed roster of American and international elites, runners will stop traffic in Manhattan, from Central Park through Times Square to lower Manhattan. The NYC Half Marathon NYRR offers more than $1 million in open and member prize money each year. New York’s running scene is one of the most competitive in the world. To recognize such talent, an honor roll of the top-ten finishers in each age group at all scored races is posted.

“We are most grateful for the opportunity to work closely with NYRR again for the 2014 NYC Half Marathon,” said Brian Mauriello, founder of Newtown Memorial Fund Inc. “Last year we were named a charity partner in the NYC Marathon, which was an extremely positive experience for our organization. Running not only brings people together, it facilitates the healing process which our community continues to work towards. Being a charity partner over time with high quality annual events helps ensure that we are able to serve our mission and goals as stated, to be of support in perpetuity until there is no longer a need.”

For additional information regarding half marathon registration, send an e-mail to info@newtownmemorialfund.org. The Newtown Memorial Fund team spots fill up quickly since registration for the race is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Volunteers are also needed to assist with the half marathon fundraising process as well. Visit www.newtownmemorialfund.org for more information.
