Newtown Ecumenical Workcamp Servants (NEWS) is hosting a holiday fundraiser that will put live plants into homes and offices while raising funds for the group’s 2019 service trip.

NEWS is running a poinsettia sale, offering local residents the opportunity to purchase premium locally grown poinsettias with three plants per pot.

Available for $25 each, $10 of each purchase will be donated to NEWS. The plants are available in red or white flowers with deep green foliage. They will be in a large, 8-inch-wide pot with festive foil for gift giving. They will also be delivered in a protective paper sleeve for safe transporting.

The plants will be available for pickup during the first week of December at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, in plenty of time for holiday decorating and/or gifting.

Each year, a group of Newtown young adults and adult chaperones embark on a week-long service trip during the summer. Planning and fundraising for the trip is a year-long process for these youth, but it is all worthwhile when they learn how they can improve the living conditions, the spirits, and even the faith of the people they work for and interact with.

In June 2019, 40 NEWS youth and 16 adult chaperones will spend a week with the Appalachia Service Project (ASP) in Guyan Valley, W.Va., helping those in need. After a week of hard work repairing homes with ASP, these youths’ hands will grow a little tougher, their arms a little stronger, and their relationship with God a whole lot deeper. They will learn that God has given them the ability to give more than they ever realized.

To support the NEWS program, poinsettia orders can be placed online through the Newtown Ecumenical Workcamp Servants page on Facebook or through newtownctchurch.org (click on the red banner for NEWS WorkCampers: Tuition, Donations, Fundraiser Contributions, and then in the second box on the next page, select the option for NEWS Poinsettia).

Orders can also be placed in person at the Newtown Congregational Church office, with cash or checks made payable to NCC Work Camp. Orders and payment are due by November 26.

For additional information, call 203-219-1748.
